Nothing is more important for a professed Christian than a strong and consistent life of prayer in a certain place. Some call it ‘the prayer room’, others call it ‘a secret place’, but ‘there’ is where committed Christians experience the presence of God, and He manifests His glory. Matthew 6:6 speaks of this secret place: “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut the door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.” It is a place where we can pour our hearts out to the Father, knowing that He will hear and respond to our cry.
To pray is to recognize we have a divine appointment where we can speak face-to-face with the Holy One of Israel, our Heavenly Father. God himself shapes the world when we pray, asking for blessings instead of curses, for peace instead of wars, for provision instead of poverty.
Jesus on Earth, fulfilling his role as Son before His Heavenly Father, gave us the perfect model for prayer in Matthew 6:9-13: “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, – Praise is a powerful spiritual prayer weapon, as with praise we are transported to the Throne of Grace, where we encounter Mercy. 10 “Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.” – The second weapon in prayer is a full commitment to obedience to the Father’s will and confessed in a loud voice for the world to hear, says that I am willing to follow his leading and obey. 11 “Give us today our daily bread”. Asking for daily bread, not just for ourselves but for the entire world, is within His will to give it. Asking is an important component of prayer because God wants us to ask so He can give. “Now to him who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine” (Ephesians 3:20) expresses God’s capacity to bless and act in our lives far surpasses our human ability to conceive or request. 12 “And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Everyone needs to be forgiven daily, as much as we need to make forgiveness a lifestyle, as God will not forgive our trespasses unless we forgive those who trespass against us. Unforgiveness leads to bitterness, anger, and pride. Who wants that? 13 “And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one.” Satan has a huge array of methods to tempt Christians, some more subtle than others, we must surrender all our activities before the Father seeking protection for the blind spots that can lead to pride, greed, and other spiritual sins God despises and can creep into our souls in ways unbeknown to us.
Heavenly Father, I declare and decree that you are our shepherd who leads us to green pastures, that you open the windows of Heaven to hear our prayers, gives us the grace to persevere in persistent and continuous prayer, and that our faith gives birth to the new things you want to do on Earth with us, in the Name Jesus’ Name.
